Din Tai Fung is finally opening its first branch in the Philippines tomorrow. It would definitely be a while for the crazy lines to die out.
For the mean time, all I can do is reminisce about our lunch at Din Tai Fung Beijing…
With the amount of walking we’ve done, it was a spontaneous decision to find a good restaurant nearby. Thank God that Din Tai Fung was conveniently located in China Central Place found in Beijing Central Business District.
With my affinity to Chinese dumplings and buns, Din Tai Fung has always been one of my favorite restaurants to visit (ie. Hong Kong and its homeland Taiwan). But it was in Beijing, where I first discovered the DTF mascot and experienced zero waiting time.
Din Tai Fung is consistent with its Xiao Long Bao (XLB) quality given that these dumplings actually follow a strict set of requirements in terms of height, skin, folds and stuffing. Without being so technical, all I can say is that these XLBs were still damn yummy.
Besides the usual soupy dumplings, we also ordered some Shrimp and Pork Wantons in spicy sauce
..and Steamed Shrimp and Pork Shaomai to even the spiciness out.
Unfortunately, the rice and pork chops were not photographed. Rest assured that we also ate other viands besides the dumplings. Our order of Sauteed Water Lilly is proof.
Of course, no Din Tai Fung visit is complete for me without an order of my special request: red bean paste buns. These are definitely the best.
With all that eating, we found ourselves re-energized once again to walk our way to Beijing Zoo.
